Univariate analysis of medical outliers on the patient outcome revealed that medical outliers are not associated with in-hospital or 30-day mortality, but they do affect the readmission probabilities with statistically significant OR (95% CI) of 1.193 (1.110 to 1.282).
We examined the association of excluding outliers in statistical analysis with self-reported characteristics of those surveyed (Figure 1). We found that those with a PhD degree were nearly twice as likely (OR 1.9, 95% CI 1.3 – 3.0) to exclude outliers compared to those with an MD or DO degree.
