If you wanted to make or commission a mod to rebalance all the cavalry in the game to create these distinctions as they should be, in a playable fashion with 'Heavy' cavalry having lower Charge Bonus/Speed but higher mass, MAtk, and MDef, I would gleefully subscribe to that mod.

29 Ιουν 2012 · ASA the cavalry engage your spearmen charge them with your own cavalry in the back or bring more infantry from second ranks. Peasants and other light infantry are also excenllent in using this tactic. The main strength of this tactic lies in reserve troops and their maneuverability.

I propose a universal defence that allows defending of cities, castles with vastly lower numbers of garrisoned troops at hardest mode AI. The scheme relies less on having the right composition of troops and superior castle defences, but more on sound cavalry tactics and superior movement based defence. You must have a superior cavalry force.
12 Απρ 2006 · With missile cav the goal is to keep them away from shooting your more valuable heavy infantry and knights. I'd gladly sacrifice a unit of light cavalry just to keep them chased around the map and away from the battle. To me the best counter against heavy cav is heavy cavalry backed up by spearmen.
