29 Μαρ 2024 · If the tumor is benign and only a small piece remains, then your healthcare professional may suggest follow-up scans only. Some small leftover tumors may be treated with a form of radiation treatment called stereotactic radiosurgery. If the tumor is irregular or cancer, you'll likely need radiation.
Radiotherapy, including conventionally fractionated external beam radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy, is a cornerstone in the interdisciplinary management of meningiomas. Recent advances in radiation oncology and also in other fields, such as neuropathology and imaging, have various implications for meningioma radiotherapy. This review aims ...
31 Οκτ 2022 · Goldsmith found substantial improvement in tumor control for patients treated in the more modern era (after 1980, coinciding with use of MR and CT guided radiotherapy at UCSF), with 98% control of benign meningiomas at 5 years after 1980 as compared to 77% prior to 1980.
Radiation therapy is an option as a primary treatment for small meningiomas and for treatment of recurrences after surgery. The technology for delivery of treatment has advanced much in the last 15 years, and now image guidance and stereotactic methods are used for defining the target location.
27 Ιουν 2023 · Adjuvant radiotherapy treatment is reserved for newly diagnosed cases of grade II and grade III meningiomas in cases of recurrent disease or when surgery is not radical or feasible. However, around 20% of these patients cannot undergo further surgical and/or radiotherapy treatment.
The most problematic cases include skull base meningiomas that enclose vasculo-nervous structures and surgery- and radiation-refractory tumors that present with significant morbidity and mortality. The treatment of recurrent tumors is based on radiotherapy and repeated surgery.
1 Οκτ 2022 · Radiotherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery are commonly applied in the adjuvant setting in newly diagnosed atypical (CNS WHO grade 2), and anaplastic (CNS WHO grade 3) meningioma, especially if gross total resection is not feasible, and in recurrent cases. Conversely, the evidence for pharmacotherapy in meningioma is scarce. Methods.
