Radiotherapy, including conventionally fractionated external beam radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy, is a cornerstone in the interdisciplinary management of meningiomas. Recent advances in radiation oncology and also in other fields, such as neuropathology and imaging, have various implications for meningioma radiotherapy. This review aims ...
31 Οκτ 2022 · Despite promising recent progress in elucidating the genomic landscape and underlying biology of these histologically, molecularly, and clinically diverse tumors, the mainstays of meningioma treatment remain maximal safe resection and radiation therapy.
4 Μαΐ 2024 · While most meningiomas are cured by resection, further treatment by radiotherapy may be needed, particularly in WHO grade 2 and 3 tumors which have an increased risk of recurrence, even after conventional therapies.
29 Σεπ 2024 · Standard treatment for patients with meningiomas is either surgical removal or external beam radiation therapy when tumors grow in areas where surgery is too dangerous, such as close...
Radiotherapy is a critical component of meningioma treatment as either a definitive intervention using stereotactic radiosurgery or external beam radiotherapy, or in the adjuvant setting for residual disease or for adverse pathologic factors, such as high WHO grade.
Radiation therapy is an option as a primary treatment for small meningiomas and for treatment of recurrences after surgery. The technology for delivery of treatment has advanced much in the last 15 years, and now image guidance and stereotactic methods are used for defining the target location.
Tumors with prior radiation therapy had higher PSMA/vascular ratio (p = 0.0439) compared to those without. Conclusions: PSMA is expressed in tumor vasculature of meningioma of any grade, increases at recurrence and persists with prior radiation therapy.
