Menlo Park is an unincorporated community within Edison Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. [2][3] In 1876, Thomas Edison set up his home and research laboratory in Menlo Park, at the time an unsuccessful real estate development named after the town of Menlo Park, California. [4] .
Menlo Park was established as a rural crossroad in the 17th century after the founding of the East Jersey colony in 1676. It was a part of Raritan township, which in 1954 was renamed Edison township in honour of the inventor.
Menlo Park. Menlo Park was one of the six neighborhoods that formed Raritan Township. It was a very sparsely populated rural area and the site of a failed residential development in the early 1870s.
Menlo Park history. In 1854, Menlo Park received its official name when two Irishmen, Dennis J. Oliver and D. C. McGlynn, purchased 1,700 acres (some sources say it was 640 acres) bordering County Road, now El Camino Real, and built two houses with a common entrance.

The museum is situated on a 36-acre state park and contains multiple memorials, markers, and kiosks that relay the rich history of Menlo Park. In the first gallery, guests learn about Thomas Edison’s life and legacy.
By this time, one of the neighborhoods, Menlo Park, had become world-renowned as the birthplace of recorded sound and the perfection of the incandescent light bulb, among several other inventions, thanks to Thomas Alva Edison who had set up his laboratory and operations in Menlo Park in 1876.
