We encourage library staff at all stages of their careers to join the program, and we encourage students and new professionals to participate as both mentees and as mentors--bringing their experiences of cutting edge practices and technologies to more experienced professionals.

Our mentorship program rose out of LAPL’s staff-led Take the Lead initiative, which empowers staff at all levels to develop and practice leadership skills. A team developed a pilot in 2021 and launched a full program in 2022, with a third season now underway.
Mentors/Mentees will meet 4-6 times a year, either by phone, email, web conferencing, or in person. Attend virtual mentorship program kick-off TBD in July, which will delineate expectations and provide strategies for success. Mentor Requirements: Be a member of REFORMA for at least one year.
The LAUC-SC Chair will email a letter of introduction between Peer Mentor and Mentee. The peer mentor pairing is intended to last from the new librarian’s start date to their first review, though it is not expected that regular meetings will take place over this entire period.
