A Christian mentor is a Jesus follower who helps others follow Jesus in a one-on-one setting. They regularly spend time with their mentee (the person they mentor), sharing stories, teaching, and encouraging their spiritual growth. Christian mentors also often spend time praying and reading the Bible with their mentees.
[1] We mentor people when we walk in relationship with them and help them toward greater maturity. Jesus mentored people into the most important type of maturity: becoming more like him. Since becoming like Jesus and joining his mission involve being his students, or disciples, we call this process “discipleship.”
Throughout the Bible, mentoring was the primary means of passing on faith, knowledge, and skills. It has also been the means of passing on the torch of faith from generation to generation. Mentoring can happen in a variety of ways and with a variety of people.

We define Christian mentorship as the trusting relationship between a mentor and a mentee within the context of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit’s focus on spiritual maturity. Christian mentoring aims for spiritual maturity by integrating the truth of Scripture with professional and daily life.
