First dose: 11 or 12 years of age. Second (booster) dose: 16 years of age. In addition to routine vaccination for adolescents, meningococcal ACWY vaccine is also recommended for certain groups of people: People at risk because of a serogroup A, C, W, or Y meningococcal disease outbreak. People with HIV.
MenACWY Recommendations. Administer MenACWY at age 11 or 12 years with a booster dose at 16 years of age. Administer 1 dose at age 13 through 15 years if not previously vaccinated. For persons vaccinated at age 13 through 15 years, administer a one-time booster dose, preferably at or after 16 through 18 years of age.
There are two kinds of meningococcal vaccines licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for protection against serogroups A, C, W, and Y: meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) and meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine (MPSV4).
