16 Μαΐ 2017 · The different nose variants of the Me 262. The Me 262A-2a was the definitive fighter-bomber version, capable of carrying two SC500 500kg (1,000lb) bombs. Only two Mk 108 cannons were retained on this version. Messerschmitt also developed a reconnaissance version of the Me 262, starting with the Me 262A-1a/U3.
Series production of fighter (Me 262A-1) and schnellbomber (Me 262A-2) variants commenced in parallel with Jumo 004 engines in June 1944. In order to develop tactics for this revolutionary aircraft, a new test unit was required.

Thirteen pre-production aircraft had been built by April 1944 and the Me 262 went into production in May 1944. Initial production began as the Me 262A-1a which carried an armament of four nose-mounted 30 mm. Mk. 108 cannons and was powered by Jumo 004 B-1, B-2 or B-3 engines.
