8 Μαΐ 2019 · Results. The mean shortening of the second metatarsal bone, as determined by the radiological study, was 2.76 mm. After an average follow-up period of 1.5 years, the final mean score on the AOFAS scale was 95.26 points. In none of the cases was the mobility of the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint affected.
1. Introduction. Central metatarsalgia, one of the most common problems in orthopaedic clinical practice, is a term used to indicate a painful condition localized in the plantar forefoot region between the 2nd and 4th metatarsal heads and/or the metatarsophalangeal joint [1 – 3], often associated with the most frequent forefoot disorders, such as hallux valgus (HV) and lesser toe deformities.
Metatarsalgia is a common foot disease with a multitude of causes. Proper identification of underlying diseases is mandatory to formulate an adequate treatment. Multiple surgical solutions are available to treat metatarsalgia. Only limited scientific evidence is available in the literature.

9 Σεπ 2022 · Iatrogenic shortening of the first metatarsal is one of the more common underlying causes of transfer metatarsalgia after hallux valgus surgery in the frontal plane (18, 19). Studies have shown that shortening up to 2–5 mm (20, 21, 22) can result in transfer metatarsalgia.
A prospective trial of long-term results of surgical treatment of 172 patients with metatarsalgia was conducted from 2000 to 2019. Two study groups were formed: the core study group comprising of 107 patients who underwent Weil-osteotomy, metatarsals proximal osteotomy.
