Under full obstetric supervision, this drug may be given in the second stage of labor following delivery of the anterior shoulder. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Breastfeeding. Studies suggest that this medication may alter milk production or composition. If an alternative to this medication is not prescribed, you should monitor the infant for side effects and adequate milk intake. Drug Interactions.

Methylergonovine is recommended when a supplemental uterotonic agent is needed; due to maternal side effects it is not preferred for initial use (ACOG 183 2017).
