The designation Magna preceded the Magnette range, first appearing on the F type in 1931. The F type in particular was derived from the C and D type Midgets that were launched in the same year. It is from the Midget, Magna and Magnette range of MG's that the terminology, Triple M cars originated.

The MG N-type Magnette is a sports car that was produced by MG from October 1934 to 1936.
The N-Type Magnett was the last in a series of small six-cylinder overhead cam light cars produced by the MG Car Company in the mid-1930s. The six-cylinder cars were built in relatively small numbers compared to the less expensive four-cylinder Midgets of the era.
In judging whether a distributor is fit for use, you are primarily looking for wear in the following locations: the central spindle at its base, where it passes through the distributor body; the top of the spindle that carries the cam rotor; the bob-weight pivots and their sockets on the weights
The M.G. Magnette was introduced five years ago as a sporting saloon far better upholstered and finished than the average run of such cars, and attempting to retain something of the M.G. reputation while making use of a Wolseley body shell and B.M.C. two-carburetter 1½-litre power unit.
The 'N' type Magnette was important because it was MG's first departure from the familiar standard type ladder frame chassis with the side members being wider at the rear than the front. There was also a new innovation with outrigger members mounted on 'Silentbloc' rubber bushes.
