11 Νοε 2016 · Has anyone removed the gearbox on a 67 MGB (overdrive) without taking the engine out? I have a hoist and all the stands and jacks. Wondering if it is physically possible?
23 Νοε 2017 · Chamfer end of gearbox input shaft, put car in gear and rotate taishaft flange to match up the splines as you draw gearbox and engine together. Alignment between the two must be spot on - even gap between bell housing and backplate at all times.
For disassembly, start by removing the side cover for internal inspection (previous page). Then remove the clutch release arm and front cover (save the bearing shims). Remove the top cover and remote shift extension assembly.
Does anyone have a method for removing just the gearbox without removing the whole engine/sub frame at the same time? I believe the left side of the sub frame has to come down to get the gearbox out of the vehicle.
Clean the inside of the main gear case and rear housing sometime prior to reassembly. Also plan on degreasing all nuts bolts and washers and check the threads for free running with fingers only prior to reassembly.
4 Δεκ 2018 · With the help from some of you guys here I've been able to slowly rebuild my MGB Gearbox successfully. I've renewed all the Bearings as well as a new Layshaft. The box has the rear casing fitted and as far as I can tell, the shimming is good. There is no movement of the 3rd motion shaft to the rear.
24 Οκτ 2022 · As I already wrote in an earlier post last November – my MGBs rear axle was in the paint-shop that burned down. It was unclear when and how I get it back as it was covered in soot. But the seller of the replacement bodyshell kindly provided an old spare axle he had in stock.
