To start a case in Small Claims Court, you must file an Affidavit and Claim in the Small Claims Court. Use our Do-It-Yourself Small Claims Suit tool get these forms. This prepares the forms you need to file.
The jurisdiction of the small claims division shall be confined to cases for the recovery of money in which the amount claimed does not exceed the following:
“A small claims division is created in each district as a division of the district court.” MCL 600.8401 . The purpose of the small claims division is to handle relatively minor civil cases for which the recovery of money is the primary purpose in an efficient, uncomplicated, inexpensive, and fair manner.
