Equation Editor (Microsoft Equation 3.0) was included in earlier versions of Word, but was removed from all versions in the January 2018 Public Update (PU) and replaced with a new equation editor. The content here describes this feature for users who have installed this update.
If you're running 64-bit (AMD64) Office, then you need an AMD64 build of the Equation Editor. ...unfortunately, such a build does not exist (probably because it's too old and unmaintained to rebuild, or Microsoft doesn't have a license to the source code from Design Science anymore).
16 Ιαν 2018 · The official word from Microsoft is that, with an update rolled out on January 10, 2018, Microsoft Equation 3.0 has been deprecated in all versions of Word back to Word 2007. 6 Ιαν 2017 · I have installed MS Office 2016 (64 bit) version to my laptop which is running on Windows 10. However, I cannot use the equation editor as its not allowing me to enter anything. Can anyone advise me.
2 Φεβ 2020 · On the PC, when clicking on a formula from Formula Editor 3.0, the error message: "Microsoft Equation Editor not available" appears. Microsoft has meanwhile published the support article 4057882 on the subject.
The Equation Editor should now be enabled for creating and editing mathematical expressions directly in your Word documents. Whether it’s simple fractions or more complex integrals and matrices, this feature can accommodate virtually any level of mathematical notation you need.
29 Σεπ 2016 · Equation Editor 3.0 is now defective after the recent Windows 10 update (#1607). We need Microsoft staff to resolve this technical issue as soon as possible. Otherwise, we math lovers are losing a critical functionality in Microsoft Word and Excel.
