Those qualities allowed the Middle Colonies to prosper in farming, agriculture, shipbuilding, and the production of textiles.
Colonial farmers in the middle colonies shipped much of their produce to the English outposts in the West Indies, a trade that planters in the islands needed in order to concentrate their land and enslaved laborers on the production of sugar.
