11 Ιουν 2024 · Arachnoid cysts can occur anywhere within the central nervous system, most frequently (50-60%) located in the middle cranial fossa, where they invaginate into and widen the Sylvian fissure. In this location, they can be classified into three types based on their size: see Galassi classification.

29 Μαΐ 2024 · Classification. It is a simple system, using the size and degree of displacement of the adjacent brain to divide cysts into three types. The size also correlates with the ease with which the cyst communicates with the subarachnoid space as discerned on CT cisternography or phase contrast MRI 1. type I.
On CT scans, arachnoid cysts are characterized by sharp, nonenhancing borders; they are isodense to CSF. On a bone window, remodeling of the skull may be evident. Arachnoid cysts seldom calcify.
1 Αυγ 2016 · Our data showed that all 3 surgical methods are effective treatments for middle cranial fossa arachnoid cysts, but, based on our safety evaluation, neuroendoscopic fenestration may the best primary surgical modality, with shunting or microsurgical treatment considered only when symptoms are unchanged after endoscopic treatment.
In this paper we analyze and correlate the different findings from these two examinations and propose a classification of arachnoid cysts of the middle cranial fossa into three basic types. Pathophysiological and surgical implications are discussed.
