After receiving a $281,500 grant from the van Beuren Charitable Foundation, Asst. Supt. Michelle Fonseca reported to the School Committee on July 18 how the funds are being used to build support for multi-language learning students.
Newport Community School (NCS), in collaboration with local schools and community partners, provides educational opportunities to complement classroom learning and supports academic success, personal responsibility, and economic self-sufficiency in a vibrant, engaged community.
3 Οκτ 2024 · Residents from Middletown and Newport gathered at the Middletown Public Library on Monday for an informational meeting about the upcoming Joint Community Learning Center. The center, a collaboration between the two towns, will be located at the soon-to-be upgraded Florence Gray Center at 1 York St. in Newport.
Dual language programs typically begin in kindergarten or first grade and continue through at least the end of elementary school. NNPS has chosen a 50-50 two-way model of DLI. This means that students spend at least 50% of the school day learning in Spanish and come from two language backgrounds.
