The Glare was one of the three mobs that people were able to choose at the eleventh Minecon, or Minecon Live 2021. This mob has the ability to locate dark areas, and becomes grumpy whenever it's shrouded in darkness. This helps the player mob-proof dark areas by finding where mobs could spawn.
The glare was a proposed mob featured in the Mob Vote during Minecraft Live 2021, alongside the allay and copper golem. It would have flown to areas dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn in, and then would have become grumpy to alert the player of this. It may have helped light up these areas as well.

16 Οκτ 2021 · Once a Glare is tamed, it’ll follow you around just like any other pet. The Glare’s special ability is to pinpoint exactly where hostile mobs can spawn in dark areas. If you bring the Glare to a dim area, it’ll hover over to the exact area where it’s dark enough for monsters.
