The interactive map provides the locations and types of active mining operations for coal and industrial minerals across the state of Ohio. Also shown are surface affected areas, their reclamation status, and abandoned underground mines. Click here to access the Mines of Ohio interactive map.

The map shows areas of active and historical coal mining in both underground and surface mines, with separate colors for auger and highwall mining. Users can zoom in on mining areas and retrieve information for individual mines, including historical mine maps for many locations.
Ohio has many locations where the public can view and possibly collect minerals. The following is a select list of mineralogical field trips. The sites were selected to provide a broad geographic distribution and to show a variety of mineral occurrences and associated geological features.
