29 Ιαν 2023 · A mineral is a natural solid with a defined chemical composition and crystalline structure. Most minerals are inorganic and form from geological processes. A mineral can be a pure elements or a compound. It is not a mixture of two or more substances. Examples of Minerals.
An aggregate of one or more minerals, (such as granite, shale, marble) or a body of undifferentiated mineral matter, (such as obsidian) or a solid organic material, (such as coal). Rocks fall into three broadly defined groups: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
In geology and mineralogy, a mineral or mineral species is, broadly speaking, a solid substance with a fairly well-defined chemical composition and a specific crystal structure that occurs naturally in pure form. [1][2] The geological definition of mineral normally excludes compounds that occur only in living organisms.
There are approximately 4000 different minerals, and each of those minerals has a unique set of physical properties. These include: color, streak , hardness , luster , diaphaneity, specific gravity, cleavage, fracture, magnetism, solubility, and many more.
The word mineral means different things to different people. In ancient times, people divided all things on Earth into the animal, vegetable, or mineral kingdoms, so a mineral was any natural inorganic substance.
