Section R305.1.1 indicates the minimum ceiling height for Basements without habitable spaces and hallways. Basements without habitable spaces and hallways shall have a minimum ceiling height of no less than 6 feet 8 inches .
To be used as a habitable space, a loft generally requires a minimum ceiling height of 7 feet 6 inches, according to the International Residential Code (IRC). However, if the loft is going to be used for storage or as a decorative feature, the minimum height may be lower.
Any room with a furred ceiling shall be required to have the minimum ceiling height in two-thirds of the area thereof, but in no case shall the height of the furred ceiling be less than 7 feet (2134 mm).
Portions of basements that do not contain habitable space or hallways shall have a ceiling height of not less than 6 feet 8 inches (2032 mm). Exception: At beams, girders, ducts or other obstructions, the ceiling height shall be not less than 6 feet 4 inches (1931 mm) from the finished floor.
31 Αυγ 2021 · The minimum ceiling height for habitable rooms or any occupiable spaces is 7 feet, according to Section R305.1 of the International Residential Code. That includes rooms with sloped ceilings, provided that 50 percent of the floor area adheres to the 7 feet floor-to-ceiling height requirement.
