  1. I am now on my third mirena iud and just got it after six years of the second. I have realized that whenever I don't have regular hormonal bc, I have very intense emotional symptoms that seem to align with my much lighter mirena period.

  2. Hormonal birth control majorly improved my quality of life. I went from crazy emotional rollercoaster bitch half the month to having pretty unnoteworthy PMS/periods. What's your experience been like?

  3. 13 Απρ 2021 · Progestin-only birth control (Depo-Provera shot, Mirena IUD) have been linked with increased risk of depression in the press, but the research does not show a clear link between progestin-only methods and depressive symptoms in healthy women (26).

  4. 20 Σεπ 2019 · This review presents the clinical problem of PMDD and more broadly of severe premenstrual disorders and summarizes the literature pertaining to coitus independent, effective contraceptive methods studied in this population.

  5. 16 Ιουν 2024 · Keep in mind that some forms of birth control have the potential to worsen mood disorders (including PMDD) such as Depo-Provera (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate), Nexplanon (etonogestrel) implant, progestin-only pills (POPs), and the levonorgestrel IUDs (Mirena, Skyla, and Liletta) (Rapkin, et al. Open Access Journal of Contraception. 2019).

  6. The studies have found that hormonal IUDs alter biological reactions (for example, cortisol, heart rate) during stress, whereas a copper IUD does not. Anecdotally, many women with PMDD say that they cannot tolerate the hormonal IUD because it makes their emotional symptoms much worse.

  7. The only non-hormonal IUD is the copper IUD. I've had Mirena, it was a horrible horrible experience for me. I've never had the copper one, I've seen mixed reviews on it based on posts here.
