Normally I’d use a dynamic mic like a Beyer M88, AKG D112 or a really bassy microphone like a Beyer 380 for really murky deep rumbly sound. If there’s a hole in the front head and there’s a lot of air coming out of that hole, you have to be careful about where the mic is positioned.
