In September 2018, through MRCTI, state legislators and mayors of cities and towns along the Mississippi River made a commitment to reduce plastic waste in the Mississippi River Valley.
The data was generated through a ‘citizen science’ approach, enlisting the participation of hundreds of community volunteers covering targeted areas along the river to understand the movement and accumulation of plastic pollution.
