The most 'counterculture' dorms are East Campus, Random, and Burton Connor (before renovation; it will probably remain there, but time will tell). There's then a pretty large gap between them and Simmons/Next, which are probably the most 'alt' of the West Campus dorms (excluding BC of course).

Obviously the tier 1 dorms that were built/remodeled recently (New, Vassar) will have better ones than the others; specifically, these to have in-unit air conditioning, but all the other dorms don't. Some people also take distance to campus into account; Maseeh and McCormick are closest to campus, while Next/New are pretty far down Memorial ...
