The electron transport chain in the mitochondrion is the site of oxidative phosphorylation in eukaryotes. It mediates the reaction between NADH or succinate generated in the citric acid cycle and oxygen to power ATP synthase.
19 Ιουν 2019 · The electron transport chain is a cluster of proteins that transfer electrons through a membrane within mitochondria to form a gradient of protons that drives the creation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is used by the cell as the energy for metabolic processes for cellular functions.
4 Σεπ 2023 · The electron transport chain is a series of four protein complexes that couple redox reactions, creating an electrochemical gradient that leads to the creation of ATP in a complete system named oxidative phosphorylation. It occurs in mitochondria in both cellular respiration and photosynthesis.
The aggregation of these four complexes, together with associated mobile, accessory electron carriers, is called also called an electron transport chain. This type of electron transport chain is present in multiple copies in the inner mitochondrial membrane of eukaryotes.
1 Φεβ 2018 · In this review, we will introduce recent advances of the mitochondrial ETC (electron transport complexes) research in three parts: the structure details of respirasome, the relationship between cristae shape and respiratory chain organization, and the highly disputed issues including substrate channeling, electron transfer pathway, and the ...
