Citing a work by multiple authors. For a source with two authors, list the authors’ last names in the text or in the parenthetical citation:
Multiple authors: MLA contains special space-saving rules for sources with many authors. As of the 9th edition of the MLA Handbook, for all in-text citations with more than 2 authors, utilize “et al.” after the first listed author to conserve space.

In most cases, the in-text citation will indicate the author. If you are referring to something on a specific page or pages, include those numbers. For works without authors, use the title; if the title is long, use a shortened version of it.
In MLA style writing, paraphrases, summaries, and quotations all require the use of in -text citations. A paraphrase restates the source material in new language and with original sentence structure. paraphrase uses approximately the same number of words as the original. A summary condenses the source material to reflect its main idea(s).
