Be sure the router bit you are about to fit is the correct tool for the job. Check the bit for damage, make sure it is sharp and clean, check that you have the correct collet for the tool shank size you are about to fit, and ensure that a sufficient length of the shank is inserted in the collet to guarantee a secure hold of the bit.
