Moaning Caverns is a solutional cave located in the Calaveras County, California, near Vallecito, California in the heart of the state's Gold Country. It is developed in marble of the Calaveras Formation.
Excellent visit to one of the most beautiful caverns in California. This location has a guided 30-45 minute tour and expertise hour long tour. Depending on your physical capabilities you might opt to join the 30-45 minute tour which we decided to do.
Moaning Caverns is home to the largest single cave chamber in California. The Spiral Chamber Tour leads visitors on a tour into the marble deposit of the Calaveras Formation over 165 feet before funneling into smaller passageways.
Moaning Caverns is far from almost all major cities, but you can come here on a day trip from Sacramento. Others can book a hotel at Murphy’s and make it a weekend trip to enjoy the caverns fully. From Stockton. Drive east on Highway 4 for a little more than 50 miles to Vallecito and Parrott’s Ferry Road.

23 Αυγ 2023 · At Moaning Caverns Adventure Park visitors have the opportunity to climb 165 feet down into one of the largest underground caverns in California and observe million-year-old limestone formations inside these caves.
California Moaning Cavern’s wonders are only 2 hours and 10 minutes from Yosemite. Take California Highway 120 out of the park, turning right on Highway 49. When you get to California Highway 4, turn right and follow that to Parrotts Ferry Road in Vallecito, California.
