The Mohegan Bluffs are large clay cliffs about 150 feet (46 m) high, located on the southern shore of Block Island. They got their name because the battle of the Niantic and the Mohegan took place here in the mid 16th century.

Map of Block Island with Mohegan Bluffs labeled with the red pointer. Block Island is a small property in the state of Rhode Island that is only accessible by ferry. There is a lot of history behind the island and many natural sights to be seen such as Mohegan Bluffs, a cliffside park with great views of natural cliffs and the Atlantic ocean.
From the 150-foot dirt and clay cliff at the southern end of the island (called “the bluffs”), you can see the new offshore wind farm. The bluffs are named for a battle in which, lore has it, the local Manisses repelled a band of attacking Mohegan Indians.
Some people say the beach at the base of the 200-foot tall Mohegan Bluffs is the most beautiful on the island, harboring a secluded, if rocky, place to swim and surf. It’s a bit of a climb to get there, however, with a set of 141 steps leading down to the sand.
The bluffs rise about 200 feet above the sea and stretch for nearly three miles. Spectacular vistas. Nature walks.
Go check out the southeast lighthouse, the Mohegan bluffs ( at least for the view if you don’t want to do all those steps ). Go get fresh hot donuts from Payne’s killer donuts trailer( the 15th is opening day!), ride north to the north lighthouse.
