According to Forbes, MonaVie's business plan resembled a pyramid scheme. In 2015, the company defaulted on a US$182 million loan and went into foreclosure. Florida-based Jeunesse Global took over MonaVie’s assets when it purchased the note for $15 million.

I honestly thought it was going to be like a legit business where we would go to stores and see if they wanted to carry the product (similar to how micro brewers and distillers reach out to local liquor stores and bars). I had no idea what a pyramid scheme was and my naivety was taken advantage of.
He ended up getting one of the teenage delivery drivers to buy into it. He sold the full bottles and the Monavie energy drinks at the shop. I remember bringing it home to my parents and they poured it down the drain, and had "the talk" with me...about pyramid schemes.
