2 Φεβ 2020 · If you are driving to Monteverde from La Fortuna or Lake Arenal, the best roads are Route 142 to Tilaran, then Route 145 to 606. This drive takes about 3.5-4 hours (from La Fortuna) and is along a mix of paved and dirt roads.

The journey may seem short at 84.6 miles (136.2 km), but the hilly terrain extends the travel time to at least three and a half hours. You can take a shuttle, a private transfer, or rent a car to reach this beautiful destination.

Monteverde is about a 3 hour drive from San Jose through Sardinal Route 606. From Liberia, it is also about a 3-3.5 hour drive through Las Juntas Route 145. A high car is not totally requires although it wil make your trip more confortable . The last 20 kilometers or so are not paved, are steep and hilly and have a handful of big potholes.
20 Φεβ 2024 · We are driving from Playa Avellanas to Monteverde tomorrow. Waze and Google both give us the following directions: Route 21. Route 18. Route 145. Calle San Rafael-Alto Cebadilla. Rte 606. Can anyone confirm this is the best way? We’re leaving at noon and hoping it takes about 3 1/2 hours. Thank you! Jenn.
