26 Δεκ 2017 · Here, we analyze mosaic evolution in the avian skull using high-dimensional 3D surface morphometric data across a broad phylogenetic sample encompassing nearly all extant families. We find that the avian cranium is highly modular, consisting of seven independently evolving anatomical regions.

With mosaic evolution, a major morphological and behavioural transition of a trait (for instance, bipedalism in hominins) can occur through several adaptive solutions in different species and even genera, each being a different combination of primitive and derived sub-traits.
23 Σεπ 2019 · Primate evolution is a splendid example of the key role of sensory interaction in driving species diversity and adaptation, with neuroanatomy and sensory anatomy reflecting the cognitive and...
10 Νοε 2021 · The mosaic brain evolution hypothesis, stating that brain regions can evolve relatively independently during cognitive evolution, is an important idea to understand how brains evolve with potential implications even for human brain evolution.
5 Ιουλ 2016 · It is not one phase of becoming human that represents a major transition, but the cumulative effect of them, the processes of mosaic evolution, and the very recent extinction of all other hominins that enhances the distinctiveness of humans.
28 Ιουν 2019 · In order to promote a clarification of the use of the concept in literature, we propose here a classification in three different meanings of the notion of mosaic in human evolution: 1)...
29 Ιουν 2000 · Here we analyse comparative data to demonstrate that mosaic change has been an important factor in brain structure evolution.
