Here's one way I know to keep from getting a Wal-Mart model from a pawn shop - make sure the gun is a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 Wingmaster. The ones sold at Wal-Mart are Mossberg 535, Remington 870 Express, and Remington 870 SPS.
There are a lot of variations of the mossberg 500, different barrel lengths, stock materials, capacity, accessories packages, etc etc, but they sell the same exact guns that cabelas and bass pro does.
