8 Απρ 2024 · More than 1660 unique ships sailed in the Arctic in 2022. The majority of those ships – 44% – were fishing vessels. The second most common ship type were general cargo ships (11%), followed by bulk carriers (7%) and tugboats (6%).
1 Μαΐ 2018 · According to Eguíluz et al. (2016), in 2014 shipping activity in Arctic waters accounted for 9.3% of global shipping traffic (including domestic, destination and transit traffic). This included 5.9% of dry bulk and general cargo and 4.2% of liquid bulk cargo.

Recent Shipping Trends. According to the Arctic Council’s Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) Working Group, shipping activity in the Arctic region grew by 25% from 2013 to 2019, and continues to grow. A major driver has been traffic in the Russian Arctic.
