16 Ιουλ 2023 · For almost nine years, the haunting corpse of “Sleeping Beauty” lay right where it had fallen on the upper slopes of Mount Everest. Finally, in 2007, Francys Arsentiev was given a proper burial and her tragic story was brought to an end.
Francys died on May 24, 1998, at the age of 40, in the same spot where she was last seen. The subsequent discovery of her body near the northeast ridge bestowed upon her the moniker “Sleeping Beauty.” She appeared peaceful, lying in the snow as if in slumber rather than the grip of death.
Francys Distefano-Arsentiev died on Everest in 1998, and came to be known as “Sleeping Beauty”.

She and her husband achieved the goal on May 22, 1998, but during the descent, due to the darkness of the night and the hostile weather, they separated.
