Kinabalu National Park was gazetted in 1964 to protect Mount Kinabalu and its plant and animal life, and in 2023, it was declared a UNESCO Global Geopark. Mount Kinabalu, standing at 4,095.2 metres tall, is the highest mountain on the island of Borneo and the 20th most prominent peak in the world.
Kinabalu Park, the entrance to Mount Kinabalu, is situated at 1,585 meters above sea level and is the main starting point of the trail leading to the summit of Mount Kinabalu. It covers an area of 754 km2 and consists of Mount Kinabalu , Mount Tambayukon and the slopes.
