10 Οκτ 2024 · Mount Pelée is a volcano located on the northern tip of Martinique, an island in the Caribbean. Known for its catastrophic eruption in 1902, it obliterated the town of Saint-Pierre, claiming nearly 30,000 lives. This eruption is one of the deadliest in recorded history.
On 16 September 1929, Mount Pelée began to erupt again. This time, there was no hesitation on the part of authorities and the danger area was immediately evacuated. The 1929 eruption formed a second dome in the Étang Sec caldera and produced pyroclastic flows emptying into the Blanche River valley.
30 Ιουν 2021 · A cataclysmic eruption phase. At 7.30 a.m., the volcano entered a declared cataclysmic eruption phase, spewing large quantities of lava. A colossal, dense pyroclastic plume rose to a height of more than 10 km and developed very rapidly.

The main eruption occurred on the morning of 8 May, and the coastal city of Saint-Pierre, which was located about 6 miles to the south, was annihilated by a pyroclastic flow of superheated steam, volcanic gases and dust.
