4 Νοε 2023 · The bobcat is another animal whose tracks can be easily confused with those of mountain lions. Both species belong to the same family (Felidae) and share similar footprint characteristics. Bobcat prints are round-shaped but smaller than mountain lion prints, lacking the prominent heel pad in the latter’s tracks.
Mountain lion tracks are much larger than those of a bobcat, with an average size of around 3 to 4 inches in diameter. Bobcat tracks, on the other hand, are smaller and more compact, typically measuring around 1 to 2 inches in diameter.
Besides paw prints, mountain lions leave scat and tree screeches, and even their sounds can be used to identify them. Mountain lions signs include tracks and sounds. Tracks can be made out of paw prints, scat, and even fur. Their prints are like cat prints, but larger.

While the Bobcat is relatively small, standing about 20 inches tall at the shoulder and weighing 15-35 pounds, the mountain lion reigns as one of North America’s most giant wild cats.
Mountain lion tracks can measure up to 5 inches in length, while bobcat tracks are typically around 2 inches in length. Another key difference is the shape of the tracks. Mountain lion tracks are more rounded and lack the distinct “bobcat shape” that gives bobcat tracks their name.
25 Οκτ 2023 · Mountain lion or cougar tracks tend to be large—up to 3.75 inches in diameter. Look for four toe prints with no claws, and three lobes toward the back of the paw. (Canine prints, like wolves and coyotes, only have two lobes on the back.)
