Studios discovered the wonders of location shooting in Palm Springs with vacant land, mountains, and boulders for Westerns and sand dunes for films about the Arabian desert.

The neighborhood has an incredible mix of Spanish Colonial Revival estates with red-tiled roofs and beautiful courtyards and Mid-Century Modern houses designed by top architects.
Since entertaining was, and still is, a major part of the Hollywood lifestyle that was transplanted to Palm Springs in the 1920s and 1930s, many of the homes in the Movie Colony feature private casitas or guest quarters.
The impressive movie colony neighborhood represents Hollywoods' glamour heyday with its mix of romantic Spanish Colonial Revival estates and elegant modernist homes.
