17 Νοε 2019 · The solutions can be a workaround (disabling the activation check), but for security reasons, it shouldn't contain a binary download. Preferably it also shouldn't require a network/internet connection. Although there is no way around using WinXP, I want to minimize security risks.
I’ve tried to update it as best I can, but when I try to install Service Pack 2 it fails with the message “product key may not be valid”. I checked activation of the product key using the Activate Windows tool, and it tells me that the product key is legitimate and activated.

I threw out a Windows XP machine a while ago (the motherboard failed). I kept the hard drive and the XP installation media. Problem is the license key was on a sticker on the machine - doh! The original manufacturer has gone bust (Evesham) and I suspect that Microsoft will be of little help.
