If you receive a phone call claiming to be from Microsoft, or see a pop-up window on your PC with a fake warning message and a phone number to call and get your “issue” fixed, it’s better to be safe and not click any links or provide any personal information. Never call a number provided in an error message.
Use a search engine to check if a phone number is a scammer. Look out for websites with reports on scam numbers. Bookmark reputable phone number database websites.

One of the most common ways that tech scammers reach you is via the phone. They may call you directly and pretend to be a computer technician from your IT department or a cybersecurity company.
Go to their official website and contact them at their published phone number. If you have an account with them, open your web browser to a new tab and use your own saved favorite or internet search to sign into your account.
