Mount Hood, located about 50 miles east of Portland, Oregon, is one of the most climbed glaciated peaks in North America (#2 in the world behind Japan's Fuji-san, according to some). While it last erupted in 1907 and still has active fumaroles, it is now considered a dormant volcano.
The following 4 sections are intended to be a place where climbers can provide updates on each side of the mountain and give current conditions for others much like you do on the climbing sheets when you check back in after your climb.
Summit Mount Hood! This snowy peak towers above Oregon, inspiring climbers and non-climbers alike. It’s glaciated flanks hint at Hood’s notoriously stormy conditions. This makes it both difficult and beautiful to ascend. Climbers come from all over the world to stand on the summit of Mount Hood.

Results & Photos. Beneficiary. Race Details. Welcome to the Everyone’s Favorite Mt. Hood Races! This Mt. Hood race is a Pacific Northwest classic – it started way back in 1999 and is a summer favorite. Almost all of the 50M and much of the 50K are run on the heavily-shaded Pacific Crest Trail.
Mt. Hood is the highest peak in Oregon, a massive stratovolcano that towers over Portland and the Columbia River. Mt. Hood has it all, moderate routes for the entry level climber, or difficult test piece climbs that challenge any climber.
Some climbers complete their climb in one day, starting between midnight and 2:00 a.m. Others start the day before and make camp around 8,800 feet to 9,400 feet to shorten their summit day climb.
