To the east of San Jacinto, the 10,834 ft (3,302 m) peak towers over the city of Palm Springs (elevation 479 ft; 146 m); to the west, it borders the mountain community of Idyllwild (elevation 5,413 ft; 1,650 m). The peak is also frequently called Mount San Jacinto.

The Marion Mountain trail fit the bill perfectly. The Marion Mountain route begins a few miles north of Idyllwild. It’s the shortest route up Mt. San Jacinto. It’s also steep, relentlessly climbing over 4,600 feet in just 5.7 miles.
Survey hikes by the Trail Report every day year-round in the San Jacinto mountains include varied and circuitous routes to San Jacinto Peak multiple times per week (61 ascents this summer since 1st July), plus many other trails on intervening days.
