4 Νοε 2023 · Overview. The next eruption at Mount Shasta would likely involve weeks to months of precursory earthquakes and ground deformation followed by a series of steam explosions blasting a deep crater at the summit of the volcano.
Mt. Shasta is a majestic, steep-sided stratovolcano located about 97 km (60 mi) north of Redding along the I-5 corridor in Northern California. It is the most voluminous of all the Cascade Range volcanoes, and the towns of Weed, Mt Shasta City, and McCloud lie in the shadow of its 4,317 m (14,163 ft) high snow- and ice-clad edifice.
Mount Shasta in northern California, seen here from the SE, is one of the largest of the Cascades volcanoes and is constructed of at least four overlapping edifices. Hotlum cone (forming the summit), along with the Shastina and Black Buttes lava domes, were all constructed during the Holocene.
