26 Αυγ 2024 · Mupirocin ointment is an antibiotic ointment used to treat bacterial skin infections, such as impetigo (IM-pe-TYE-go). Mupirocin ointment clears skin infections by killing the bacteria that cause them, including “Staph" bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) or “Strep” bacteria (Streptococcus pyogenes).
Mupirocin is used for the topical treatment of the following primary and secondary skin infections caused by sensitive strains of staphylococcus and streptococcus species: Impetigo (school sores) Folliculitis. Furunculosis (boils) Ecthyma.
Do not use it on skin areas that have cuts, scrapes, or burns. If it does get on these areas, rinse it off right away with water. To help clear up your skin infection completely, keep using mupirocin for the full time of treatment , even if your symptoms have disappeared.
Mupirocin calcium cream for dermatologic use containing 2% mupirocin is used for the topical treatment of secondarily infected traumatic skin lesions (e.g., lacerations, sutured wounds, abrasions) caused by susceptible S. aureus and S. pyogenes. [78][98]
