The San Francisco State campus has seventeen murals created by different artists. Eleven of the murals pay homage to historically oppressed peoples. SFSU promotes diversity and raises awareness of marginalized groups in order for every voice to be heard.
The Cesar Chavez Student Center has a strong program of naming spaces and creating murals in honor of people and communities whose lives and struggles for equality have inspired students and staff for a long time and who became role models for generations.

Picturing Success. Jordan Herren (B.S., ’13) has been making a name for himself as a painter of colorful large-scale murals. His work — often depicting sprawling cityscapes — has livened up the exteriors of the San Francisco bar Badlands, the Toad Hall nightclub and other Bay Area businesses.
