The Museum of the Great Plains is a history museum located in Lawton, Oklahoma, United States. The museum’s major exhibits reveal the diverse cultures inhabiting the Great Plains region beginning with the arrival of the Paleo-Indians known as the Clovis culture at approximately 11,500 BCE.
The Muscogee Nation, or Muscogee (Creek) Nation, [3] is a federally recognized Native American tribe based in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The nation descends from the historic Muscogee Confederacy, a large group of indigenous peoples of the Southeastern Woodlands. They commonly refer to themselves as Este Mvskokvlke (pronounced [isti məskóɡəlɡi]).

This interactive teaching aid uses primary sources, quotes, images, animations, and short videos of contemporary Muscogee people to explore what Muscogee life, culture, and land looked like prior to removal from their lands by the US government.
23 Οκτ 2023 · The once-mighty Muscogee Nation was down, but its spirit was not destroyed. Despite continued hardships, its citizens carved a new life for themselves in Oklahoma. In 1867, the Muscogee began operating under the guidance of a written constitution and code of laws.
Hickory Ground remains a symbol of the resilience and enduring cultural heritage of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Its history reflects the broader narrative of Native American struggles, from early European contact and to forced removal and contemporary efforts to preserve sacred sites.
