20 Δεκ 2021 · In this paper, we present a CS-based classifier for music genre classification, with two sets of features, including short-time and long-time features of audio music.
We obtained all of our musical data from the public GTZAN dataset. This dataset provides us with 1000 30-second audio clips, all labeled as one out of 10 possible genres and presented as .au files. From each clip, we sampled a contiguous 2-second window at four random locations, thus augmenting our data to 8000 clips of two seconds each.
Taking a digital graphic representation of popular-music genres as a starting point, the problems and challenges of generic classifications in today’s world are outlined, proposed alternative approaches (such as the “post-genre” phenomenon) are explored, and recent musicological thinking on the topic is assessed.
